Reliable pumping of butane that eliminates fugitive gas leaks and reduces risks

Wanner Hydra-Cell Pro® Seal-less Diaphragm Pumps are engineered to optimize the injection of butane, ensuring the safe, reliable, cost effective and efficient handling and transportation of this light hydrocarbon.

Hydra-Cell Pro Seal-less pumps easily handle non-lubricating fluids as the pumped fluid is not used to lubricate any running surfaces or bearings. This feature also, allows the pump to run dry indefinitely.

The innovative seal-less design ensures efficient and reliable performance in butane injection applications, enhancing productivity and reducing operating and maintenance costs. In many applications, seal-less pumps are preferred in butane injection service due to the high vapor pressure that presents a safety risk and environmental issue if leaked into the atmosphere. Plunger and piston type pumps often require a vapor recovery system due the high vapor pressure in order to meet strict EPA emissions requirements. Hydra-Cell Pro pumps eliminate this accessory cost and complexity.

Hydra-Cell Pro® seal-less pumps provides safe, leak-free handling, processing and transfer that reduces costs, downtime and risks

Hydra-Cell Pro® Key Technology Advantages for Butane Blending

Pump Abrasives and Suspended Solids

Handle suspended particulates and impurities up to 800 microns, eliminating the need for fine filtration and ensuring consistent performance with abrasive fluids.

ELIMINATE FUGITIVE GAS LEAKS

With seal-less design and no leak path for VOCs, Hydra-Cell Pro pumps eliminate fugitive emissions vapors and risks. Secondary containment available.

HANDLE A WIDE RANGE OF VISCOUS LIQUIDS

Accurately and reliably pump liquids ranging from non-lubricating, very low viscosity liquefied gases to viscous liquids and slurries up to 20,000 cP.

Run Dry With No Pump Damage Risk

Seal-less design and 100% containment of pumped liquid means that, unlike other pumps, Hydra-Cell Pro pumps will operate if the suction line becomes closed or blocked.

EXTREMELY LOW PULSE FLOW

Low flow 10-120 gpm at 1500 psig+ capabilities with wide, adjustable and controllable flow rate for a consistent process with no pulsation dampeners needed in most applications.

MEETS OR EXCEEDS API 675

Multi-diaphragm, seal-less design with a range of models, operating flows, and pressures, for high volume transfer and processing.

REPLACE HIGH-MAINTENANCE PUMPS

With no seals, cups, or packing to replace, not only are leaks eliminated, but downtime and annual maintenance costs are significantly reduced.

Cost Savings and Energy Efficiency

With up to 90% efficiency, Hydra-Cell Pro pumps use lower power motors compared to plunger pumps and multi-stage centrifugal pumps, reducing initial costs and energy use.

Materials for Multi-Use

Simple change of liquid head materials of construction allows the pumps to be used with many different chemicals and liquids in applications with different flow and pressure requirements.

Wanner Application Briefs

A combustion test facility needed to pump methane, butane, and propane reliably for a fuel-blending system demonstrating gas turbine fuel flexibility. Hydra-Cell Pro D35/G35 pumps were selected for their ability to handle non-lubricating, very low-viscosity liquids with precise control. The pumps have supported over 25 successful tests and were integral to a project named finalist runner-up in an industry engineering awards program.

A petrochemical manufacturer producing thermoplastic resins used two brands of conventional metering pumps to dose butane and methanol in a cooling process, incurring $120,000 in annual maintenance and replacement lead times of up to six months due to their bulky, hard-to-transport design. Hydra-Cell Pro D10/G10 pumps replaced them, offering hydraulically balanced, multi-diaphragm construction that delivers smooth, pulse-free flow without dampeners and matches flow and pressure with a lower-horsepower motor. Annual maintenance costs dropped to about $3,000, with easier servicing thanks to the compact design.

A natural gas processor needed to transfer heavier NGL components—propane, normal butane, isobutane, and natural gasoline—from fractionation towers into storage, while meeting a strict fugitive-emissions limit the previous triplex reciprocating pumps couldn't hold. Two Hydra-Cell Pro T100 pumps were installed with pneumatic isolation valves and a custom thermostatic heat blanket to manage the intermittent, high-pressure, low-temperature service. Their seal-less design's full containment and smaller footprint decided the selection.

An operation needed to transfer hydrocarbon condensate under tightening VOC-emission regulations. Hydra-Cell Pro pumps were selected for their seal-less design, which eliminates the shaft seals and packing that could leak, and their proven handling of non-lubricating, low-viscosity liquids. This combination made them well suited to reliably containing VOCs during transfer.

A major refinery expansion required a hydrocarbon property-analyzer (HPIB) process built on years of trouble-free use of Hydra-Cell Pro pumps in density-analyzer applications since 2008, with no maintenance or spare parts needed. Up to eleven fast-loop analyzer skids each use a Hydra-Cell Pro pump to draw liquid streams from main headers for analysis and reintroduce samples under pressure, with about 19 Hydra-Cell Pro D03/G03 and D10/G10 pumps supplied for the project. Selection came down to the seal-less design's leak-free operation, its ability to handle scale particles and non-lubricating liquids at high pressure, and overall reliability.

"Pulse-Free" Processing of Benzene, Toluene and Xylene

An oil refinery in the Kemerovo region of Russia, with a forecast capacity of 6 million tons per year, is pivotal in the development of fuel and energy in Western Siberia. They needed a pump to feed BTX (Butane, Toluene, Xylene) into a catalytic converter. It was critical for the flow to be pulse-free, as pulses can damage the catalytic cells. Hydra-Cell Pro pumps were chosen because of their low-pulse, reliable performance handling tough liquids in the most rugged environments.
